Free Fly’s Designer, Women’s will be accountable for managing the Women’s product design vision and standards across the team. Collaborating closely with the Product Design Director, this role will elevate our material, design, and innovation philosophy strategy, positing Free Fly Apparel as an industry leader. By leveraging research and insights from consumers and Free Fly ambassadors, the Designer will develop innovative solutions for pursuits in, on and around the water.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Design and develop women’s styles that align with the brand aesthetics from initial concept to pre-production approval, managing projects across all design stages
  • Create detailed sketches, tech packs, and spec sheets for production
  • Support brand strategies, align with business goals and growth plans, and ensure that all designs are consistent with the brand’s aesthetics/values while strategically pushing Free Fly forward
  • Identify opportunities to integrate ambassador feedback, emerging trends and innovations into designs
  • Deliver compelling presentations and effectively communicate with internal customers and stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with Product Design Director and cross-functional partners, including Product Managers, Development, and the Raw Materials Teams to ensure work is delivered on time and of the highest quality
  • Research and stay updated on current market trends, including fabrics, yarns, and techniques
  • Participate in fittings and provide feedback on garment construction and fit
  • Work with Design Director to maintain fit protocol and standards for Free Fly and protect brand integrity through fit continuity
  • Maintain daily communication with internal and external teams to ensure production is on schedule
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure quality and timely delivery
  • Drives for continual improvement and innovation to enhance product quality, fit and process effectiveness
  • Foster open communication and team environment with all business partners
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel design & manufacturing required
  • 3-5 years of design experience with a proven track record of successful collections and products required
  • Comprehensive understanding of garments in outdoor / activewear / lifestyle space desired, including insulations, base layer, construction techniques, material assessment, functionality, and production feasibility
  • Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim; familiarity with print design and manufacturing
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, balance creativity with technical capability, and interpret design sketches for tech packs
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) along with 3D and AI tools

  • Strong design management skills with an understanding of end-to-end design process
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills to work effectively with all stakeholders
  • Extreme attention to detail and accuracy, as well as ability to prioritize and make quick decisions
